About Detailed Harmony

The Quinte Arts Council is pleased to present Detailed Harmony, a collaborative exhibition by artists Emebet Belete and Grazynka Shaarani, on view throughout the month of May, with an Opening Reception on May 7 from 4–6 PM at the QAC Cultural Hub and Gallery.

This exhibition brings together two complementary artistic practices that reflect a shared appreciation for balance, simplicity, and the quiet beauty of natural forms.

Grazynka Shaarani’s work is inspired by Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arrangement. Rooted in centuries of tradition, Ikebana is a meditative practice guided by careful structure and philosophy. While governed by precise principles of placement, proportion, and line, the final arrangements are meant to appear effortless — simple, airy, and serene. Its guiding philosophy, “less is more,” invites viewers to slow down and appreciate the subtle harmony between space, form, and nature.

Complementing these sculptural arrangements, Emebet Belete explores the expressive potential of macro photography. Through detailed close-up imagery, she magnifies the intricate textures and patterns found in crochet work intertwined with natural elements. By enlarging these intimate details, Emebet transforms familiar materials into abstract compositions that emphasize colour, line, shape, and texture. Her photographs invite viewers to look more closely and discover unexpected relationships between handmade craft and the organic forms of nature.

Together, the artists create a dialogue between structure and spontaneity, tradition and contemporary interpretation, nature and craft. Detailed Harmony encourages viewers to experience the beauty that emerges when careful attention meets creative exploration — revealing the extraordinary within the smallest details.

Visitors are invited to join the artists for the Opening Reception on May 7 from 4–6 PM, an opportunity to meet the artists and experience this thoughtful collaboration celebrating simplicity, detail, and the art of observation.

We would like to acknowledge funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario.
