About Environmental Portrait Workshop with Darren Rigo

Join Darren Rigo for a walk through his photo-centred art practice spanning 15 years. His quirky images attempt to push the boundaries of photography and explore how it can interact with other mediums like painting, ceramic and textiles. Get a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process and ask questions about growing a contemporary art practice.

Following the talk, the group will head outside for a demo and hands-on portrait session using lighting techniques with 5-way reflectors. Registration required. Please bring your camera!

Darren received a BFA from OCAD University in 2010, where he majored in photography. Darren’s work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across Canada and internationally. He has completed residencies at AIAV (Japan), Leveld Kunstnartun (Norway), and AIRY (Japan). His work has also been included in the collections of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan and the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton. Darren was Head of Membership and Facilities at Toronto’s Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography for the last ten years, having recently stepped away to focus on his commercial photography practice, art projects, and parenthood.
