About Immersive Art: Creating an Oceanic Inspired Installation with Sara Keller

The "Immersive Art: Creating an Oceanic Inspired Installation" class takes children on a creative adventure through display installation. Over four sessions, they explore marine life and craft a captivating mixed media underwater scene by manipulating common materials. Each week we will focus on a different element of the install, kelp garlands created from dyed coffee filters, schools of fish created from painted and texturized watercolour paper, hanging jellyfish from various found objects, sea anemones and coral from pipe cleaners, cardboard tubes and styrofoam balls and finally creating the environment for all of this to live out of cardboard and chicken wire!

Throughout the class, children develop teamwork, problem-solving, and spatial awareness skills. They collaborate, communicate, and overcome challenges together. By the end of the class, children have not only crafted an impressive and “instagrammable” oceanic inspired installation but also honed their creativity and developed a deeper appreciation for art and nature. The class empowers them to express their imagination, work as a team, and make a positive artistic impact. After de-install, students are invited to take any of their pieces home to create a mini-installation in their own space!
