Howard Rees
Since moving to the Quinte area, Howard Rees has founded the Belleville Jazz Festival, and established a jazz master class & jazz choir in Belleville. He regularly performs on piano and bass with some of the area’s top musicians. In addition, Howard has performed with some of the greats in jazz including; Kenny Burrell, Jaki Byard, Ray Drummond, Slim Galliard, Barry Harris, Earl May, Charles McPherson, Akira Tana and Leroy Williams.

Howard is an international teacher of jazz. His weekly zoom master class is attended by musicians in Canada, the USA, Europe, China and South America. His teaching is based on the methodology of his mentor, Dr. Barry Harris with whom he apprenticed from 1978 to 2021, many of those years in New York City. Aside from his Toronto based jazz workshop, now in its 39th year, Howard has taught at many schools around the world including Shobi University, Japan; University of Leeds, UK; and Stanford University, USA.
