About Memory Quilts with Bill Stearman

Remembering matters, especially as memories fade. Making functional and beautiful objects with meaningful textiles can be a great way to dialogue with those memories. Join artist instructor Bill Stearman in this 6-week course on creating a memory quilt. Memory quilts can be made from any textiles of significant meaning: t-shirts, sports jerseys, old clothing, tablecloths, linens, or anything else you might have a sentimental connection to. Bill will provide instruction on how to assemble four simple quilt blocks including scrappy nine patch block, Irish chain block, half-square triangle block, and flying geese block. He will also introduce the idea of the memory quilt and show examples, helping participants through designing and sewing their own lap-sized memory quilt from textiles brought from home.

Please note - this course is taught using textiles each participant brings. The instructor will have extra fabric available that can be purchased for cost. Bringing your own sewing machine is recommended, but no sewing experience is required.

For ages 18+. Sliding scale pricing, $120-$240 for 6 two-hour evenings, plus materials fee.
