About Picton Public Art Walk

Come envision an art-filled Picton with us! This Public Art Walk will be a fun and unique opportunity to collectively imagine a town bursting with vibrant, awe-inspiring, and/or thought-provoking public art activations. Together, we will explore how public art can impact our everyday moments and well-being. We will imagine bursts of colour on concrete, peek into the nooks and crannies and reflect from afar, ponder big public art questions, share stories of existing and past public art activations, explore potential future public art sites, and have some fun along the way!

Please let us know you’re coming at https://countyarts.regfox.com/picton-public-art-walk so we can make sure we have enough refreshments for everyone!

Who’s Who? Your friendly Public Art Walk Guides will be Andrea Dawes, County Arts’ Special Initiatives Manager and Lead on the Prince Edward County public art planning process and Victoria Taylor, Principal of VTLA Studio, a landscape architectural design studio based in Picton. We will also be joined by special guest artists The Department of Illumination and Irene Götz, who will be doing live on-site sketching along the way!

Walk Details / Accessibility – We will be walking just over 2 kilometres, and standing/walking for 75-90 minutes during the Walk. We will mostly be on pavement/smooth surfaces that are suitable for mobility devices, though there might be 1 or 2 instances where we’ll leave the sidewalk to get a closer look at a site. Please make sure you bring/wear everything you need to stay hydrated and comfortable. There are a few steps to access the exterior entrance of the County Arts Lab, but these can be avoided if you use the ramp and Luso Bites cafe entrance to the lower level of the Armoury and enter the Lab from our interior door. Accessible washrooms on site.

There will be snacks and warm drinks to enjoy once we arrive at our final destination: the County Arts Lab (Unit 1E, lower level of the Picton Armoury). You are welcome to just join us for this last portion of the event (from 12-12:30), where you can propose locations for public art on our map and engage in informal chats about public art and the planning process. We have high ceilings, a window that we can open if the weather is fair, and a powerful air purifier; mask-wearing is welcome.

This event is being held as part of a public art planning process for Prince Edward County. Learn more and share your vision for public art in PEC at haveyoursay.thecounty.ca/public-art-planning. Survey respondents will have the chance to enter a draw for a $150 gift card to an eligible Countylicious restaurant!
