About REMEMBRANCE by John C. Leonard
The Stirling-Rawdon Library Art Gallery is excited and honoured to showcase two separate upcoming series by Canadian artist John C. Leonard. With over 450 previous exhibitions internationally since 1967, it is an exciting opportunity for the library to feature such a renowned and experienced professional artist. Leonard has taught extensively at many of Ontario’s universities and art schools, including OCADU, the University of Toronto and York University and his work is held in more than 40 public galleries and corporate collections, including the National Gallery, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ministry of Culture and Recreation, and many others.
‘Remembrance’ is the first exhibition of Leonard’s work to be featured in the Stirling-Rawdon Public Library Art Gallery, running from November 4 to 21. This exhibition will showcase beautiful, large pieces that depict events from World War I and II, which have significantly impacted Leonard’s life and the lives of his family. The inspiration for this remarkable series of paintings came from conversations with Leonard’s mother and aunt, both of whom were war brides married to Canadian soldiers. The exhibition will conclude on November 21 at 12:00 PM with a presentation by the artist, offering more insight into the inspiration behind this incredible Remembrance series.
