About "Sea Wall" by Simon Stephens and "The Black Chair" by Peter Paylor
"Sea Wall" by Simon Stephens is quite simply one of the most powerful pieces of theatre you're likely to see on stage in your lifetime. A devoted husband, a proud father, and a successful photographer, Alex is living his dream. But without warning, his good fortune slips out from beneath his feet, leaving Alex as a shell of the man he once was. It's a solo show that puts great demands on an actor. Toby Farrell shines in the role that was originally performed by Andrew Scott.
"The Black Chair" by Peter Paylor is also about a photographer. Pauline is working on a series of portraits where the subjects simply interact with an old wooden chair. There's James, an older gay man. He's a "dandy". There's Anne who works at the mall, she's young and naive. There's Jeff, an engineer who keeps everything in, and Tina, who puts it all out there. And there's Mary, the caretaker. She's the one with the keys. It's a poignant, funny, and delightful half hour of theatre you're not likely to forget.
