About South Shore Joint Initative and County Arts Call for Artist Proposals
County Arts and South Shore Joint Initiative are partnering for a meaningful event in celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity (May 22nd). We are seeking artist proposals for a two hour facilitated arts activity that may involve a workshop, an interactive piece, or co-creating a work with participants, that speaks to themes around Monarch butterflies.
South Shore Joint Initiative is dedicated to the protection and preservation of the biodiversity of the South Shore area including the Monarch reserve. Their mission is to educate and advocate for the protection, preservation and restoration of South Shore lands and waters, including Monarch butterflies, which have been declared internationally endangered.
Potential proposed projects can include (but are not limited to) the following themes:
Reflections around migration
Responding to the Climate Crisis
Monarch symbolism
Emergence
Nature as collaborator
Panpsychism in nature
Flight as a concept
The selected artist will be paid CARFAC fees. The event will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, May 20th at the County Arts Lab (lower level of the Picton Armoury). The event will be free to the public to attend, but will require pre-registration. An outdoor educator from SSJI will speak to the group about Monarchs and their important role in biodiversity, after which the selected artist will engage the group in their project.
