About Transcendent Landscapes with Megan Fitzgerald
Transcendent Landscapes is a mixed media painting workshop all about the awe-inspiring and mystical quality of landscapes. In each 2 hour session, students will be introduced to basic skills in landscape painting including thumbnail sketching, compositional and value studies, colour charts and preparing the surface for painting. A series of sequential exercises will help the student develop confidence and their own visual language before moving on to a final landscape project that encourages experimentation, play and rule breaking.
Studio work will be accompanied by short presentations on artists who have used abstraction, colour, mark making, scale and material exploration to transform and push the landscape painting genre: Turner, Matisse, Maurice Denis, Monet, Georgia O’Keefe, Anselm Kiefer and Arthur Lismer to name a few. By the end of the course, students will have a number of mixed media studies on paper, 2-3 acrylic paintings on board or canvas and the tools and experience to make expressive, informed paintings decisions that are authentic to both artist and place. No experience required, all materials provided.
