About voICE

"voICE" by Canadian fine art photographer, Tara Wilkinson explores explores the raw and exquisite beauty of melting icebergs from Europe's largest ice cap, the Vatnajökull Glacier.

Created through the compression of billions of snowflakes and volcanic ash, each piece of ice is exposing information about the earth’s past.

Through her series "ICE CUBES" … Tara takes us even closer to view the suspended animation trapped in the glacial ice. Each macro photograph is printed onto thick 6” x 6” acrylic blocks. When backlit, each one-of-a-kind “ICE CUBE” is an illuminated work of art.

The exhibition also includes images from some of Iceland’s other diverse and spectacular landscapes – scorched deserts, lush valleys, majestic fjords and snow-covered mountains.
“As we crested a hill and I first saw the blue icebergs floating in the Jokulsarlon lagoon (Iceland’s deepest lake), my eyes flooded with tears. I had never seen anything in nature so astoundingly beautiful.

We were soon bundled up in massive flotation suits and took a zodiac out to see them (and the colossal glacier they broke away from) ... up close.

As I looked across the massive lake (that didn't exist 100 years ago) filled with icebergs ... and I looked way up at the massive ridge of the glacier looming above us like a skyscraper, I realized … we shouldn't be seeing this. We are all in an urgent race against time.

Can we hear the voICE? Is anybody listening?”
